Information Literacy Advisory Council

Council Charge

The Gallaudet Information Literacy Advisory Council (ILAC) is responsible for coordinating efforts among faculty, librarians, eLearning staff, and staff from other academic support units in teaching, promoting, and assessing student information literacy skills.

Council Goals and Actions

During FY2008, ILAC will:
  1. use data from Fall 2007 student assessments to revise and improve integration of library and technology skills in the GSR curriculum.
  2. review the student learning outcomes created by academic departments to identify where information literacy is currently being taught and assessed.
  3. create a set of student outcomes for information literacy that integrate the five major competencies in the GSR curriculum.
  4. review information literacy standards and recommendations from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).
  5. discuss shared responsibilities for information literacy learning (see MSCHE Guidelines, p. 23)
  6. offer faculty development workshops for enhancing information literacy and technological competence.
During FY2009, ILAC will:
  1. work with the Council on Undergraduate Education (CUE) to conduct an audit of how information literacy is taught and assessed.
  2. determine goals and implement methods for improving instruction and assessment of information literacy at the undergraduate level.
  3. create a set of outcomes for faculty and staff related to best practices in developing and assessing information literacy.
  4. offer faculty development workshops for enhancing information literacy and technological competence.
During FY2010, ILAC will:
  1. work with the Graduate Council Education (CGE) to conduct an audit of how information literacy is taught and assessed.
  2. determine goals and implement methods for improving instruction and assessment of information literacy at the graduate level.
  3. create a set of outcomes for faculty and staff related to best practices in developing and assessing information literacy.
  4. offer faculty development workshops for enhancing information literacy and technological competence.
